Crest Privacy Policy
Crest is a gym workout tracker for Android. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it is stored, and how you can delete it.
In short: your workouts stay on your phone. The developer runs no servers and never receives your data. If you turn on Google Drive backup, copies go to your own Google Drive, which only you and the app can access.
Data the app stores
Crest stores the following only on your device, in the app's private storage:
- Your workouts: exercises, sets, weights, reps, notes, and start and finish times.
- Your workout templates and custom exercises.
- Your settings, such as weight unit, bar weight, plates and rest time.
Crest has no account system, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It does not collect your location, contacts, photos or any identifier for advertising.
Backups you choose to make
Crest sends data off your phone only when you choose one of these:
- Google Drive backup. If you connect Google Drive, Crest saves a copy of your data after each finished workout and keeps the 10 newest copies. Copies are stored in Crest's hidden app folder in your own Google Drive. Crest asks only for the
drive.appdatapermission, which gives it access to that folder and nothing else in your Drive. The app also reads your Google account email address, only to show you which account it backs up to. This data goes directly from your phone to Google. The developer never receives it. - Device folder backup. If you choose a folder, Crest saves the same copies into that folder on your device. If that folder is synced by another app, that app's privacy policy applies to the copies.
- Manual export. When you tap Export, Crest creates a file and opens the Android share menu. The file goes wherever you choose to send it.
Android may also include the app's data in your device's own backup to your Google account, depending on your phone's backup settings. Google manages that backup, not Crest.
Google user data
Crest's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Crest uses Google Drive access only to save and restore your own backups. It does not sell this data, use it for advertising, or let anyone else read it.
Permissions
- Notifications: to alert you when your rest between sets is over, and to show the workout in progress.
- Alarms & reminders (exact alarms): so the rest alert arrives on time. If you deny it, the alert still arrives, possibly a little late.
- Vibration: for the rest alert.
- Run at startup: to restore a pending rest alert after your phone restarts.
- Internet: only for Google Drive backup.
Deleting your data
- To delete everything on your phone, uninstall Crest.
- To stop new backups, open Settings in Crest and tap Stop auto-backup.
- To delete the backups in Google Drive, open Google Drive on the web, go to Settings, then Manage apps, find Crest, and choose Delete hidden app data.
- To remove Crest's access to your Google account, visit myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- To delete copies in a device folder, delete the
crest-auto-*.jsonfiles (and anybarlog-auto-*.jsonfrom before the app was renamed) in that folder.
Children
Crest is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
