Cairn Privacy Policy

Effective 6 October 2026 · Developer: Applied Theory

Cairn is a tasks, projects and notes app for Android. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it is stored, and how you can delete it.

In short: Cairn does not collect any data. The developer has no servers and no external database, and never receives, sees or stores anything you enter or connect. Everything lives on your own phone, and any Google data the app reads belongs to your own Google account and is shown only to you.

Data the app stores on your device

This is not collection by the developer. Cairn stores the following only on your device, in the app's private storage:

  • Your tasks, projects, notes, tags and recurrence settings.
  • Links you attach to a task or note: for a Google Drive file or a Gmail message, its title, sender or file details, and web address.
  • Calendar events shown in the app: title, time, location and link.
  • Your settings.

Cairn has no account system, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It does not collect your location, contacts, photos or any identifier for advertising.

Google services you choose to connect

Each Google service is off until you turn it on in Cairn. The app asks for a service's permission only when you switch it on, and you can switch it off again at any time.

  • Google Calendar (calendar.events). Cairn creates, updates and deletes events on your primary calendar for tasks that have a date, keeps them in step with changes you make in Calendar, and shows your other events for the day in the app.
  • Google Drive (drive.readonly and drive.appdata). Cairn lists your files so you can attach one to a task or note, and opens it from the link. It does not change or delete your files. It also saves a backup copy of your notes to a hidden app folder in your Drive, which only Cairn can access.
  • Gmail (gmail.readonly). Cairn reads your starred and inbox messages, showing the sender, subject and a short preview, so you can turn a message into a task or attach it. It cannot send, change or delete mail.

The app also reads the email address of the Google account you sign in with, to show which account is connected. This data goes directly between your phone and Google. The developer never receives it, and Cairn does not send it to any third party.

Google user data

Cairn's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Cairn uses Google data only to provide the features described above, inside the app, for you. It does not sell this data, use it for advertising or to train AI models, or let humans read it.

Permissions

  • Internet: only to talk to Google when you have connected a Google service.

Android may also include the app's data in your device's own backup to your Google account, depending on your phone's backup settings. Google manages that backup, not Cairn.

Deleting your data

  • To delete everything on your phone, uninstall Cairn.
  • To stop syncing, switch the service off in Cairn's settings.
  • To delete the notes backup in Google Drive, open Google Drive on the web, go to Settings, then Manage apps, find Cairn, and choose Delete hidden app data.
  • To delete calendar events Cairn created, delete them in Google Calendar.
  • To remove Cairn's access to your Google account, visit myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Children

Cairn is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
